Description

Lasagna is an essential attribute of Italian cuisine. However, different regions of the country have their own way of preparing this dish. This recipe comes from Lombardy, where it is served on the night before Christmas. The wide pasta sheets symbolize the swaddling clothes in which the baby Jesus was wrapped.

Ingredients

  • Garlic - 2.1 oz
  • Olive Oil - 3 fl oz
  • Butter - 2.6 oz
  • Grated Pecorino Pepato Cheese - to taste
  • Lasagna dough - 10.6 oz
  • Walnuts - 5.3 oz

Step by Step guide

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 392°F. Soak the walnuts in boiling water for 5 minutes, drain, and peel. Place in a mortar or food processor along with the garlic and breadcrumbs and make a coarse paste. Add the olive oil and continue until the sauce is smooth. Season to taste.

Step 2

Boil the lasagna sheets in boiling water until almost cooked. Place a piece of butter at the bottom of a baking dish, add a layer of pasta sheets. Add some sauce, a bit of oil, and some Parmesan. Repeat, using all the layers of pasta and finishing with a layer of sauce, oil, and Parmesan. Bake for 15 minutes. Serve warm.
