Description
American macaroni and cheese is not the same as Italian or Russian versions. It’s a whole casserole! You can also use shells, elbows, or penne—basically, any type of pasta that has volume.
Ingredients
- Penne rigate - 15 oz
- Chicken Egg - 1 piece
- Butter - 5 oz
- Wheat Flour - 0 oz
- Milk - 25 fl oz
- Dijon Mustard - 2 spoons
- Hard Cheese - 15 oz
- Salt - to taste
- Ground Black Pepper - to taste
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Prepare the necessary ingredients.
Step 2
Cook the pasta until al dente in salted water.
Step 3
Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat.
Step 4
Add the flour and cook, stirring for a couple of minutes.
Step 5
Add the milk and mustard powder, stirring until well combined.
Step 6
Then, continue stirring and cook the sauce until it thickens.
Step 7
Take a small amount of sauce and quickly mix it with a raw egg in a separate bowl.
Step 8
Then pour the egg sauce back into the saucepan. Add most of the grated cheese, reserving about 50 grams for baking, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 9
Mix the pasta with the sauce and place it in a baking dish.
Step 10
Sprinkle with the remaining cheese and bake at 355°F (350 degrees Fahrenheit) for 20-25 minutes, until a golden crust forms.
