Description
In the end, you'll have a warming winter dish!
Ingredients
- Basmati rice - 12.3 oz
- Beef - 14.1 oz
- Barbecue sauce - 15 oz
- Onion - 2 pieces
- Butter - 2 tablespoons
- Turmeric - 2 teaspoons
- Ground Black Pepper - a pinch
- Salt - a pinch
- Ground clove - 6 pieces
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 482°F. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the rice according to the package instructions. Drain the cooked rice in a colander and let it cool. Grease the inner surface of a baking dish with half of the butter. Sprinkle with turmeric and shake well to coat the butter. Finely chop the onion. Cut the meat into small pieces.
Step 2
Place a pan over high heat and add some oil (peanut or olive). Crush the cloves in a mortar. Add the onion and cloves to the pan, along with a pinch of salt and pepper. Stir and cook for 7–10 minutes until the onion is golden brown. Place another pan over high heat, add olive oil. Sauté the meat with a pinch of pepper for 5 minutes, turning it over. Pour in the curry sauce (I usually use ready-made Pataks sauces, Tandoori curry works best in this case) and cook over medium heat for 15 minutes with the lid on.
Step 3
Layer the rice in the baking dish, followed by a layer of curry and onion. Continue alternating layers, with the last layer being rice. Gently press down to slightly flatten the surface. Cut the remaining butter into pieces and distribute them evenly over the rice. Fold a large sheet of foil in half and cover the dish with it, pressing the edges down to secure it tightly. Place the dish on the bottom rack of the oven and bake for 50 minutes.
