- Lean Beef - 14.1 oz
- Onion - 1 head
- Chicken Egg - 1 piece
- White bread - 1 slice
- Garlic - 4 cloves
- Grated Pecorino Pepato Cheese - 2 cups
- Dill - 3 sprigs
- Lemon-Pepper Mix - to taste
- Salt - to taste
- Herbs - to taste
- Bay leaf - 1 piece
- Crushed Tomatoes in Their Own Juice - 26.5 oz
- Vegetable Oil - 3 tablespoons
Step by Step guide
Step 1
For the sauce, heat vegetable oil in a pan or saucepan, add 2 finely chopped cloves of garlic. Sauté until the garlic starts to release its aroma.
Step 2
Crush the tomatoes and add them to the garlic along with the juice.
Step 3
Bring to a boil covered, add the bay leaf and whole sprigs of dill. Cover and simmer for about 10 minutes on low heat.
Step 4
About 2 minutes before it's done, add spices, herbs, and salt.
Step 5
Remove the bay leaf and dill. Let the sauce cool slightly under the lid.
Step 6
Separate the bread crumb from the crust and soak it in milk.
Step 7
Pass the meat through a meat grinder along with the onion, 2 cloves of garlic, and the bread.
Step 8
Add the egg, 1 cup of cheese, pepper, spices, and salt. Mix everything together.
Step 9
Pour the sauce into a deep baking dish.
Step 10
With wet hands, shape the meatballs to the size of a medium cherry tomato.
Step 11
Place them a little apart from each other in the sauce. Put the dish in a preheated oven at 374°F for 15 minutes.
Step 12
After 15 minutes, sprinkle the meatballs with cheese and return to the oven for another 10 minutes.
Step 13
Serve the meatballs drizzled with sauce and sprinkled with fresh herbs.
