Description
Casserole with ground meat is a simple and very quick dish that can also be incredibly delicious. You just need to know a couple of secrets. Mix nutmeg into the mashed potatoes for aroma, add grated cheese and an egg for a creamy texture — that’s tip number one. Sauté the ground meat with onions and carrots, and mix it with chopped herbs and fresh peas to create a very juicy and pleasant filling for the casserole, which is tip number two. Finally, before baking, sprinkle the surface with grated cheese — this will give the casserole a nice golden crust.
Ingredients
- Potato - 2 lbs
- Lean Beef - 17.6 oz
- Onion - 1 head
- Carrot - 1 piece
- Canned Tomatoes (Pelati) - 14.1 oz
- Frozen green bean pods - 3.5 oz
- Parsley - 1.1 oz
- Chicken Egg - 1 piece
- Butter - 1.8 oz
- Hard Cheese - 5.3 oz
- Vegetable Oil - 1 fl oz
- Salt - to taste
- Ground Black Pepper - to taste
- Nutmeg - to taste
- Breadcrumbs - 0.5 oz
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Peel the potatoes, and if they are large, cut them into 2–4 pieces. Cover with water and boil until cooked through.
Step 2
Once the potatoes are cooked, drain the water, add butter, and mash them into a puree. Season with salt and add nutmeg to taste, along with 100 grams of grated cheese and an egg. Mix well.
Step 3
Finely dice the onion and cut the carrot into cubes about 1 cm on each side.
Step 4
In a skillet, heat vegetable oil and sauté the onion until golden brown.
Step 5
Add the carrot to the onion and sauté, stirring, for another 5 minutes.
Step 6
Add the minced meat to the skillet and sauté, stirring, until the meat changes color completely.
Step 7
Add the canned tomatoes to the skillet, stir, and simmer until all the liquid has evaporated, about 10–15 minutes.
Step 8
Finally, season the filling with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and stir in the green peas and chopped parsley.
Step 9
Place the filling in a baking dish.
Step 10
Spread the puree on top and smooth it out. Sprinkle with the remaining grated cheese and place in the oven preheated to 392°F for 20–25 minutes.
