Classic Lasagna
Ingredients
- Lean Beef - 10.6 oz
- Ham - 5.3 oz
- Carrot - 1 piece
- Celery salt - 2 pieces
- Olive Oil - 4 tablespoons
- Red Grape Juice - 8 fl oz
- Onion - 1 piece
- Garlic - 1 clove
- Salt - to taste
- Ground Black Pepper - to taste
- Milk - 16 fl oz
- Wheat Flour - 2 tablespoons
- Crushed Tomatoes in Their Own Juice - 14.1 oz
- Ground Nutmeg - a pinch
- Bay leaf - 1 piece
- Butter - 3.5 oz
- Ready-made dry lasagna sheets - 8.8 oz
- Grated Pecorino Pepato Cheese - to taste
Step by Step guide
Step 1
For the meat sauce, heat the olive oil in a heavy-bottomed pot.
Step 2
Add finely chopped onion and garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent over low heat.
Step 3
Add the carrot and celery, cut into strips. Increase the heat. Sauté for 5 minutes.
Step 4
Add the ground beef and ham. Cook until the mixture is light brown.
Step 5
Pour in the wine. Simmer for 10 minutes.
Step 6
Add the finely chopped tomatoes along with their juice to the sauce. Simmer everything together over low heat for about 40 minutes.
Step 7
For the béchamel sauce, melt the butter in a pan, add the flour, and lightly fry until it has a nutty aroma.
Step 8
Bring the milk to a boil, add a pinch of nutmeg, and include the bay leaf. Let it steep for 10 minutes.
Step 9
Remove the bay leaf and, stirring, gradually pour the milk mixture into the heated pan with flour. Bring the mixture to a boil, but do not let it boil over. Lightly salt. The sauce is ready.
Step 10
To prepare the lasagna, pour a little meat sauce into a high baking dish. Cover with lasagna sheets. Add a layer of meat sauce, then béchamel. Sprinkle with Parmesan. Repeat with lasagna sheets until the meat sauce is finished. Top with lasagna sheets. Pour the last portion of béchamel over and sprinkle with Parmesan.

Preheat the oven to 356°F. Place the lasagna in the oven and bake for about 40 minutes until a golden crust forms.
