- Water - 16 fl oz
- Salt - 1½ teaspoons
- Coarse Cornmeal - 8 fl oz
- Butter - 4 tablespoons
- Cheddar cheese - 3.5 oz

Step 1
To prepare the porridge, take a heavy-bottomed pot, pour in the milk and water, add salt, and place it over medium heat. Once the liquid boils, start adding the cornmeal in small portions, stirring constantly.
Step 2
After that, reduce the heat to the minimum and cover the pot with a lid. Continue stirring every 3-4 minutes to prevent the porridge from burning and forming lumps. Cook this way for 20-25 minutes until the porridge becomes soft.
Step 3
Remove the cooked porridge from the heat, add pepper, add the butter, and stir thoroughly until it melts. Then mix in the cheese in small portions for even distribution. Serve immediately.
