Description
This is also an absolutely summer option — it includes sorrel, currant leaves, and lemon. Making the cordial will take a couple of hours. Recipe by John Smith, head bartender at a popular American restaurant.
Ingredients
- Gin - 1 fl oz
- Vodka - 8 fl oz
- Sugar - 4.2 oz
- Meyer Lemon Juice - 8 fl oz
- Citrus Zest Mix - 3 pieces
- Black Currant Leaves - 0.9 oz
- Sorrel - 0.7 oz
- Water - 13 fl oz
- Gingerbread-flavored syrup - 0 fl oz
Step by Step guide
Step 1
First, prepare a lemon cordial. Mix vodka, 100 grams of sugar, fresh lemon juice, and lemon zest in a large zip-lock bag. Submerge the bag in a water bath heated to 135°F for 2 hours. Halfway through the cooking process, stir the contents of the bag to help the sugar dissolve.
Step 2
Next, prepare a puree from the currants and sorrel. Place the currant leaves, sorrel, 20 grams of sugar, and water into a blender. Blend at high speed and strain through a filter.
Step 3
Mix 15 ml of lemon cordial, gin, sugar syrup, and 70 ml of puree, gently stir, and pour into a chilled cocktail glass.
Step 4
Serve.
