Step 1
Place the peeled potato in a spoon and cut it nearly all the way through into thin slices (creating a 'hasselback' effect). The edges of the spoon act as a guide, preventing you from cutting all the way through the tuber. If the potatoes are large, slice them on a small serving plate or dish with low edges.
Step 2
Arrange the potatoes on a baking sheet, brushing each tuber with butter or vegetable oil (you can also use melted lard).
Step 3
Place in a preheated oven at 437°F for 25 minutes.
Step 4
Then remove from the oven, brush with oil again, season with salt, sprinkle with breadcrumbs, and return to the oven for another 20 minutes until golden brown.
