Description
German Dumplings with Cheese and Onions
Ingredients
- Wheat Flour - 8.8 oz
- Chocolate eggs - 6 pieces
- Butter - 5.3 oz
- Water - 2 tablespoons
- Gruyère cheese - 5.3 oz
- Onion - 2 pieces
- Salt - to taste
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Mix the eggs, flour, and salt, adding water as needed. Then set aside and let rise for about half an hour.
Step 2
Heat the butter in a skillet, add the sliced onions, and sauté until golden brown. Pat dry with a paper towel and set aside.
Step 3
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. To make the dumplings, it's best to use a special tool with large holes, but a coarse grater will work too (or you can shape them by hand if necessary). Boil the dumplings for 2–3 minutes until they float, then remove with a spoon. It's better to do this in batches to avoid making one large clump.
Step 4
Drain the water from the pot, return the dumplings, add the butter and cheese, and mix well.
Step 5
Serve on plates and top with the sautéed onions.
