Description
Another classic salad with a modern twist. Individual rolls of herring under a fur coat are more convenient than the traditional layered presentation on a platter. Firstly, they are easier to place on a plate, and secondly, there’s less chance of the entire tablecloth being stained with red beet spots. If you are celebrating New Year with a group of friends potluck-style, where everyone brings their own dish, then the roll in a container is much easier to transport than herring on a platter.
Ingredients
- Beetroot - 17.6 oz
- Carrot - 7.1 oz
- Potato - 10.6 oz
- Semi-soft cream cheese - 3.5 oz
- Mayonnaise - 7.1 oz
- Herring - 1 piece
- Onion - 1 piece
- Chicken Egg - 2 pieces
- Dill - 0.4 oz
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Prepare all the ingredients.
Step 2
Cook the carrots, potatoes, and beets unpeeled until tender.
Step 3
In a separate saucepan, bring water to a boil, gently add the eggs, and cook for 13 minutes.
Step 4
Chop the dill.
Step 5
Finely chop the onion.
Step 6
Prepare the herring by removing the bones and slicing it into strips.
Step 7
Mix the cream cheese with mayonnaise.
Step 8
Cool the cooked eggs under running water and peel them. Grate them using a fine grater.
Step 9
Peel the carrot, potato, and beetroot. Grate the potato using a coarse grater, and grate the beetroot and carrot using a fine grater.
Step 10
Lay the beetroot on a sheet of plastic wrap and spread it out in a not-too-thin layer to form a rectangle. Spread a cheese and mayonnaise sauce over it.
Step 11
Next, layer the potatoes, eggs, onions, and carrots. Spread sauce over each layer. Finally, place the herring in the center along the length of the dish.
Step 12
Roll the log using plastic wrap.
Step 13
Before serving, garnish the roll with dill and slice it into portions.
