Description
This is an imitation of yellow (pilau) rice, BUT: this is a quick recipe, for the best result, it’s better to use a proper recipe. Warning: I cook rice by eye, not following any rules or package recipes, and it turns out best this way. The recipe is accordingly. It’s better to use rice from 'Indian Spices' (it cooks itself!), but I also use Mistral. Of course, you can add cumin seeds to the rice, but I never get good results from that (the aroma is not strong enough). This seems to be something you can only do when cooking properly (i.e., following a classic recipe).
Ingredients
- Basmati rice - 1 cup
- Butter - to taste
- Ground Cumin - to taste
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Boil the rice. Add the rice to boiling salted water, cook until done or almost done (regular white basmati cooks quickly). I cook with the lid off.
Step 2
Drain in a colander. No need to rinse, but you can if you think it’s necessary.
Step 3
In the bottom of a still hot pot (by the way, it’s best to use a small pot with a thick bottom), place the butter, melt it, add ground cumin to taste, return the rice to the pot, mix everything, and let it sit under a dry towel (this is the main thing!).
