- Pearl barley - 1½ cups
- Pea shoots - ¼ cup
- Onion - 1 head
- Thyme - 2 tablespoons
- Butter - 3 tablespoons
- Salt - 1 teaspoon

Rinse the peas, soak for 2 hours, then boil.
Step 2
Thoroughly rinse the barley groats in several waters, pour in 2 liters of hot salted water, bring to a boil, and cook over medium heat for 15–20 minutes.
Step 3
During cooking, skim off the foam that forms.
Step 4
Peel, wash, and finely chop the onion.
Step 5
Drain the remaining water after boiling, add the peas and onion to the porridge, and cook over low heat until the groats are completely soft.
Step 6
Season the finished porridge with butter, add dried thyme or savory, stir, and cook over low heat for 5 minutes.
