Lazy Cabbage Rolls Layered in the Oven
Ingredients
- White Cabbage - 1 head
- Sour Cream - 5.3 oz
- Ground Black Pepper - to taste
- Ground meat - 14.1 oz
- Rice - 1 cup
- Onion - 2 pieces
- Vegetable Oil - 3 tablespoons
- Spices - to taste
- Orange Bell Peppers - 1 piece
- Tomatoes - 2 pieces
- Passata Tomato Sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Butter - 1 tablespoon
- Paprika - to taste
- Salt - to taste
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Without cutting the cabbage, remove the core. Boil the cabbage in salted water until the leaves easily separate – about 5-7 minutes. Young cabbage will cook faster. Remove the cabbage, let it sit for a while to drain and cool.
Step 2
Prepare the filling. Finely chop 1 onion and sauté it in vegetable oil. Boil the rice in plenty of salted water until half-cooked – about 10 minutes, then drain. Add the rice and sautéed onion to the ground meat. Mix everything, add a good pinch of salt, and season with black pepper or meat spices (if desired).
Step 3
Prepare the vegetable filling. Wash the bell pepper and tomatoes, peel, and cut them into strips. Finely chop the onion. In a skillet, pour a little vegetable oil, add butter, and sauté the vegetables briefly. Then add 1/4 cup of water and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Add the tomato paste at the end of cooking the vegetables.
Step 4
Assemble the layered dish 'lazy cabbage rolls'. Separate the cabbage leaves and divide them into four equal parts. Grease the bottom of a pot (2.5-3 liters) with a little vegetable oil and lay down the first layer of cabbage leaves. Top with 1/3 of the filling, spread with sour cream, and add 1/3 of the vegetables. Add the second layer of cabbage and continue until all ingredients are used. The top layer should be cabbage. Pour water over them, cover with foil, and send to the oven. Bake for about 1 hour at 356°F. 20 minutes before it's done, remove the foil and finish cooking the rolls in the oven.
