Description
Meat with gravy is a recipe that seems to have emerged on its own, and one that humanity has long embraced. Beef, by its very nature, possesses a rich and aromatic juice. Making a sauce from it is incredibly simple; you just need to combine slices of meat with water, and add sautéed onions, pepper, and wheat flour, which will give the sauce a wonderful texture. This dish can be served with anything – grains, vegetables, and especially potatoes of all kinds work well as a side, but you can also enjoy it on its own, simply dipping a thick piece of bread into the flavorful liquid.
Ingredients
- Beef - 31.7 oz
- Onion - 2 heads
- Water - 30 fl oz
- Vegetable Oil - 2 fl oz
- Butter - 1.4 oz
- Wheat Flour - 1.1 oz
- Passata Tomato Sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Bay leaf - 1 piece
- Green peppercorns - 5 pieces
- Salt - to taste
- Ground Black Pepper - to taste
- Sugar - ½ spoons
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Cut the meat into small pieces.
Step 10
At the end, season the meat with the gravy to taste. Serve with your favorite side dish, such as mashed potatoes.
Step 2
In a skillet, heat vegetable oil and sauté the meat over high heat until it is golden brown. If the skillet is small, it's better to cook the meat in batches.
Step 3
Transfer the seared meat to a thick-walled pot.
Step 4
Chop the onion finely and sauté it in the same skillet until golden brown.
Step 5
Transfer the onions to the pot with the meat.
Step 6
Season the meat and onions with pepper and just a little salt, add water, bring to a boil, cover with a lid, and simmer on low heat for 40 to 60 minutes.
Step 7
In a small saucepan, melt the butter, then add the flour and cook, stirring, until the flour turns a caramel color.
Step 8
Pour 3 ladles of broth from the pot with meat into the saucepan with the flour and whisk until smooth.
Step 9
Pour the resulting sauce into the pot with the meat, stir, add tomato paste, sugar, bay leaf, and peppercorns. Stir again, cover with a lid, and simmer for another 20–30 minutes.
