- Baking Tomatoes - 7.1 oz
- Lean Beef - 21.2 oz
- Thyme - 1 sprig
- Garlic - 2 cloves
- Scallions - to taste
- Rice - 7.1 oz
- Salt - to taste
- Ground Black Pepper - to taste
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Cook the rice until half-done (like Italian pasta — al dente).
Step 2
Mix the ground beef, rice, chopped onion, and add salt.
Step 3
Roll the mixture into balls about 4–5 cm in diameter.
Step 4
Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet and sauté the minced garlic. Add finely chopped canned tomatoes along with their juice and a sprig of thyme.
Step 5
Bring to a boil and tightly place the meatballs in the skillet. Cover with a lid, reduce the heat, and let simmer for about 15 minutes.
Step 6
If the liquid evaporates quickly, add a little water or tomato juice. When the meatballs are ready, the rice grains will start to poke out like needles. Serve with the tomato sauce they were stewed in.
