The 'Moscow Mule' is metaphorically not just a mule, but a Trojan horse that brought Russian vodka into American bar culture. The original recipe calls for ginger beer instead of ginger ale, which is not available here. The flavor of ale is slightly less spicy, but this can be compensated by adding another piece of ginger.

Ingredients

Vodka - 1 fl oz
Ginger Green Wine - 5 fl oz
Grated Ginger Root - 1 piece
Lime - ½ pieces
Ice - 6 pieces

Step by Step guide

Step 1

This cocktail should be prepared using the build method, meaning it is made directly in the glass or, more appropriately, in a copper mug — which is how it will be served. First, the mug needs to be chilled — either place it in the refrigerator beforehand or pop it in the freezer for a few minutes.

Step 2

Place a thin slice of ginger root at the bottom of a chilled glass and gently muddle it to release its juice. Add ice.

Step 3

Pour in the vodka, squeeze the juice of one lime wedge into the mixture, and fill it to the brim with ginger ale. Stir with a bar spoon and garnish with a lime wedge.
