Moussaka with hard cheese

Ingredients

  • Eggplants - 2 pieces
  • Ground meat - 24.7 oz
  • Tomatoes - 4 pieces
  • Passata Tomato Sauce - 8.8 oz
  • Onion - 1 head
  • Hard Cheese - 5.3 oz

Step by Step guide

Step 1

Sauté the chopped onion in olive oil, then add the ground meat and cook over high heat until fully cooked. Next, add the diced tomatoes. Season with salt and pepper, then set aside.

Step 2

Slice the eggplants into thin rounds (about 4 mm thick) and sauté them in olive oil for a few minutes on each side.

Step 3

In a square baking dish (you can also use a regular frying pan), layer the eggplants, then add a layer of ground meat, followed by a layer of tomato paste. Next, add another layer of eggplants and repeat all the layers. Top with a final layer of eggplants, drizzle with tomato paste, cover with foil, and place in a preheated oven for about 20–25 minutes.

Step 4

Remove the foil, sprinkle grated cheese on top, and return to the oven for another 10-15 minutes.
