Description
Mulled wine is a hot beverage made from wine, sugar, and spices. In Sweden, it is traditionally enjoyed exclusively before Christmas from special small cups, accompanied by raisins and blanched almonds. Gingerbread cookies and blue cheese are typically served alongside mulled wine.
Ingredients
- Red Grape Juice - 25 fl oz
- Honey - 5 oz
- Cinnamon - 2 pieces
- Clove - 1 piece
- Cardamom - 2 pieces
- Oranges - 1 piece
- Cognac - 0 oz
- Raisins - 5 oz
- Chopped almonds - 5 oz
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Pour the wine and cognac into a pot and heat to 60–160°F. The boiling point of alcohol is 170°F, so avoid heating above this temperature to prevent the alcohol from evaporating.
Step 2
Add the remaining ingredients; only the zest of the orange is needed. Turn off the heat and let it steep for at least thirty minutes. When the drink is ready, heat it up, strain it, and serve.
Step 3
Before serving, you can place a little almond and raisins at the bottom of small glass cups.
