Merlot, Cabernet, or Bastardo are great choices for mulled wine.

Ingredients

  • Red Grape Juice - 25 fl oz
  • Oranges - 2 pieces
  • Water - 5 fl oz
  • Sugar - 2.8 oz
  • Cardamom - 5 pieces
  • Cinnamon - 1 piece
  • Star anise - 2 pieces
  • Clove - 10 pieces

Step by Step guide

Step 1

In a saucepan, combine water and sugar.

Serve in cups with orange slices and spices.

Add cinnamon, cloves, star anise, and cardamom.

Bring the syrup to a boil.

Step 4

Wash the oranges.

Step 5

Squeeze the juice of one orange into the syrup.

Cut the second orange into wedges.

Step 7

Add the wedges to the syrup.

Cook the syrup for 5–7 minutes over medium heat.

Step 9

Add a bottle of wine to the syrup and warm it over low heat. It's important not to let the mulled wine boil, so that the alcohol doesn't evaporate.
