Description

Sbiten from Alex, the head bartender of the restaurant The Cozy Corner, features honey, meadow herbs, apple puree, ginger juice, and vodka in equal measure. It's unlikely that Alex's mom went to such lengths to perfect the ingredients for a homemade drink, but this unconventional sbiten captures the essence of what sbiten is all about — that intoxicating aroma reminiscent of freshly raked hay in the entryway of a country home. Another important quality of this drink is that it provides a wild burst of warmth.

Ingredients

  • Vodka - 1 fl oz
  • Chartreuse Liqueur - 0 fl oz
  • Gingerbread-flavored syrup - 0 fl oz
  • White tea with chamomile - 5 fl oz
  • Mint - 0.1 oz
  • Honey - 2 spoons
  • Applesauce - 1.8 oz
  • Meyer Lemon Juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Ginger Green Wine - 1 tablespoon
  • Dried Apricots - 1 piece
  • Prunes - 1 piece

Step by Step guide

Step 1

Brew tea with chamomile and mint. Let it steep for 3–5 minutes.

Step 2

Add the remaining ingredients, bring the mixture to a boil over low heat, boil for 2 minutes after it reaches a boil, turn off the heat, and let the beverage steep for 2–3 minutes.

Step 3

Strain the drink into a glass or mug. Optionally, garnish with dried apricots or prunes.
