Description
A Tuscan contribution to our 'Golden Thousand': panzanella, a salad made from ripe tomatoes and bread soaked in water with vinegar. The tomatoes must be ripe and flavorful, or the dish will be ruined.
Ingredients
- Stale Bread - 10.6 oz
- Tomatoes - 8.8 oz
- Spanish onions - 1 piece
- Basil - 0.7 oz
- Olive Oil - 2 fl oz
- Red Wine Vinegar - 1 fl oz
- Salt - to taste
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Prepare the necessary ingredients.
Step 2
Cut the stale bread into large pieces.
Step 3
Transfer the bread to a dish and pour over a mixture of water and vinegar. Let it sit for 30 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the liquid.
Step 4
Slice the onion into thin strips.
Step 5
Cut the tomatoes into medium-sized pieces and tear the basil leaves.
Step 6
Squeeze the bread by hand and transfer it to a clean bowl.
