Pork with Potatoes in the Oven

Ingredients

  • Pork Blood - 2 lbs
  • Salad Potatoes - 5 to 6 pieces
  • Turnips - 2 to 3 pieces
  • Onion - 2 pieces
  • Cheese Spread - 5.3 oz
  • Milk - 17 fl oz
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Ground Black Pepper - to taste
  • Khmeli-suneli - ½ teaspoon
  • Vegetable Oil - 3 tablespoons
  • Butter - 3.5 oz
  • Herbs - 1 bunch

Step by Step guide

Step 1

Grease a baking dish with vegetable oil. Slice the potatoes, carrots, and onion into rings about 0.5 cm thick. Cut the cheese and butter into small cubes. Then layer everything in the baking dish: potatoes, carrots, onion, butter, cheese. Next, season this layer with salt and pepper.

Step 2

Cut the pork into large cubes (3 cm x 3 cm). Sear the pork without salt and pepper over high heat until browned. It doesn't matter if the inside is raw; we just want to achieve a crust. We do not add salt because it causes the meat to release its juices.

Step 3

Place the seared pork in a layer on top of the potatoes. Season with salt and pepper.

Step 4

Top with onion, carrots, cheese, and butter.

Step 5

The last layer is potatoes; season lightly with salt and pepper. Remember, the salt should be calculated as 1 teaspoon per 1 kg of meat.

Step 6

Mix the khmeli-suneli into the milk, season with salt and pepper, and pour it into the dish. The liquid should reach the top layer of potatoes. If using milk with 3.2% fat, dilute it with water.

Step 7

Cover with foil.

Step 8

Bake in the oven at 200–428°F for 1.5–2 hours.

Step 9

Remove the foil, poke the vegetables; if they are soft, sprinkle grated cheese on top and leave for about 15 minutes for a crust.

Step 10

Garnish with herbs.
