Ingredients

  • Cheshire Cheese - 3.5 oz
  • Broccoli - 12.3 oz
  • Salad Potatoes - 21.2 oz
  • Toasted Sesame - 2 tablespoons
  • Milk - 7 fl oz
  • Phyllo Dough - 10.6 oz
  • Butter - 1 piece
  • Chicken Egg - 1 piece
  • Nutmeg - 1 piece
  • Olive Oil - to taste
  • Ground Black Pepper - to taste
  • Ocean salt - to taste

Step by Step guide

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 374°F. Grease a round baking dish (about 25 cm) with olive oil using a brush.

Step 2

Place a sheet of filo pastry in the dish, brush it lightly with olive oil, then place the next sheet of filo on top, overlapping it slightly, and brush with oil again.

Step 3

Continue layering the pastry and brushing with oil until the dish is completely covered. The pastry should slightly hang over the edges as shown in the recipe photo. Cover with a clean, damp kitchen towel and place in the refrigerator until needed. In the meantime…

Cut the broccoli into small pieces. Peel the potatoes and cut the large ones into quarters and the small ones into halves.

Step 5

Place the potatoes in a medium-sized pot, cover with cold salted water, and cook over medium heat. Bring to a boil and then cook for 10-15 minutes or until tender.

Step 6

When there are about 10 minutes left until the potatoes are fully cooked, add the broccoli and continue cooking until tender. Drain in a colander and let sit for a few minutes.

Put the potatoes and broccoli back in the pot, add the butter, and mash well until smooth, then grate half of the cheese and mix it into the mash.

Step 8

Crack the egg into a bowl, add the milk, and whisk well, then grate the nutmeg and add a pinch of salt and pepper, mixing again.

Step 9

Pour the egg mixture into the mash and mix well, then spread the mash into the baking dish lined with pastry and smooth it out evenly. The potato and broccoli pie is almost ready, just a couple more steps.

Step 10

Grate the remaining cheese and sprinkle the sesame seeds on top, then place it on the bottom rack of the hot oven and bake for 45-60 minutes, or until the potato pie is covered with a golden-brown crust.

Once cooked, let the pie cool for about 10 minutes, then cut the potato and broccoli pie into pieces and serve with a fresh vegetable salad.
