Ingredients
- Potatoes - 2 lbs
- Sea Salt - a pinch
- Butter - 1.8 oz
- Milk - 7 fl oz
- Nutmeg - a pinch
- Onion - 2 pieces
- Sauerkraut - 17.6 oz
- Apple juice - 3 fl oz
- Vegetable Oil - 2 tablespoons
- Ground Paprika - ½ tablespoon
- Bay leaves - 2 pieces
- Breadcrumbs - 2.8 oz
- Apple - 2 pieces
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Boil and mash the potatoes, add milk and butter, and season with salt and nutmeg.
Step 2
Dice 1 onion and sauté it. Add apple juice, chopped apples, and bay leaves, and simmer for about 10 minutes. Add the sauerkraut and continue to simmer for another 5 minutes.
Step 3
Spread the sauerkraut mixture in a baking dish, top with the mashed potatoes, and place in a preheated oven at 356°F for about 20 minutes.
Step 4
Finely chop 2 onions and sauté them in oil. Crumble the bread and sauté it in vegetable oil with sweet (preferably smoked) paprika. Sprinkle the finished casserole with the breadcrumb-onion mixture.
