Description

This is a very simple recipe from Sicilian cuisine that may seem strange, but once you try making it, you'll keep it on your list of favorite dishes for a long time.

Ingredients

  • Oranges - 4 pieces
  • Sweet Red Onion - ½ head
  • Olive Oil - 4 tablespoons
  • Olives stuffed with lemon - 12 pieces
  • Salt - a pinch
  • Ground Black Pepper - a pinch
  • Pistachios - to taste

Step by Step guide

Step 1

Slice the onion.

Step 2

Place it in a bowl and cover with cold water for 10 minutes to soften the flavor.

Step 3

Peel the oranges, removing all the white part under the skin. Cut them into slices of 0.5-1 cm.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, mix the olive oil with salt and pepper.

Step 5

Arrange the oranges on a plate, top with the onion and olives. Drizzle with olive oil and, for a more original flavor, sprinkle with pine nuts.

Step 6

The dish can be served as an appetizer or as a side dish to rich meals. If using a more acidic orange, the dish will pair especially well with fatty pork dishes.
