Smash Cucumbers with Balsamic Vinegar

Ingredients

  • Cucumbers - 5 pieces
  • Garlic - 2 cloves
  • Sesame Seeds - 2 tablespoons
  • Olive Oil - 3 tablespoons
  • Balsamic Vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Soy Sauce - 3½ tablespoons
  • Sugar - ½ teaspoon
  • Ground Black Pepper - to taste
  • Ground red pepper - to taste

Step by Step guide

Step 1

Wash the cucumbers, cut off the ends, and slice them in half lengthwise.

Step 2

Next, we will smash the cucumbers. To avoid splattering, it's better to place them in a plastic bag. Smash the cucumbers well with a meat mallet or rolling pin — they should crack with a crunch.

Step 3

Now, using a sharp knife, cut the smashed cucumber halves diagonally and place them in a bowl or salad dish.

Step 4

Next, prepare the dressing. In a separate bowl from the cucumbers, mix the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and soy sauce.

Step 5

Add sesame seeds, sugar, red and black pepper to the dressing. Finely chop the garlic and add it to the dressing as well.

Step 6

Mix the dressing well, then pour it over the cucumbers.

Step 7

Mix well again. The salad is ready! You can eat it right away, or let it sit for about 10 minutes to soak in the flavors.
