Description
To make it even more appetizing, add a pinch of turmeric, and the rice will acquire a warm golden color. To enhance the aroma of coriander seeds, lightly toast them in a dry skillet before adding them to the rice.
Ingredients
- Long-Grain Rice - 1 cup
- Olive Oil - 2 tablespoons
- Ground Cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- Ground Ginger - 1 teaspoon
- Coriander Seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Nutmeg - 1 teaspoon
- Water - 2 cups
- Salt - to taste
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Rinse the rice well and soak it in cold water for 10–15 minutes. Drain the water. Bring the cooking water (two cups) to a boil.
Step 2
Place a pot (preferably with a thick bottom) over medium heat, pour in the oil, add all the spices, and quickly sauté them for a maximum of one minute while stirring. Add the rice, mix well, and sauté the rice in the spices for another 2–3 minutes.
Step 3
Pour water over the rice, add salt, bring to a boil, and cook for about 3 minutes over high heat, then reduce the heat to low and cook until the rice is done.
Step 4
Serve hot rice with a piece of butter as a side dish to meat or fish dishes. Aromatic masala rice will diversify your daily menu and serve as an interesting alternative to plain white rice.
