Spicy hemp seed patties
Ingredients
- Maple syrup - 2 tablespoons
- Dried Parsley - 2 tablespoons
- Dried Sage - 2 tablespoons
- Ground Dried Garlic - 2 teaspoons
- Dried Oregano - 1½ teaspoons
- Smoked Paprika - 1½ tablespoons
- Ground Black Pepper - 1½ teaspoons
- Salt - 1½ teaspoons
- Dried thyme - 1½ teaspoons
- Dried Red Pepper - ¼ teaspoon
- Cornmeal - ¾ cup
- Hemp Seeds - 1 cup
- Olive Oil - 1 teaspoon
- Canned pinto beans - 15.9 oz
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl. Pour in 2 cups of boiling water. Set aside.
Step 2
Mix 1 cup of hot broth with cornmeal. Let it sit for 5 minutes. Stir in the hemp seeds.
Step 3
Heat 1 teaspoon of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add ½ cup of beans and ⅓ cup of hot broth. Mash the beans with a potato masher. Cook for 3-4 minutes until the liquid evaporates, stirring frequently.
Step 4
Add another ½ cup of beans and ⅓ cup of hot broth, mash with the masher, and continue to cook, stirring. Add the remaining ½ cup of beans and ⅓ cup of hot broth and cook for 5-7 minutes until thickened.
Step 5
Combine the beans with the cornmeal mixture. Cool or refrigerate overnight.
Step 6
Form small patties with damp hands.
Step 7
Spray a non-stick skillet with oil or heat ¼ cup of oil in it over low heat. Fry the patties for 3-5 minutes on each side until browned. Place on paper towels to absorb excess oil. Cool for 3-5 minutes before serving.
