Description

Sweet and Sour Pork

Ingredients

  • Long-Grain Rice - 7.1 oz
  • Pork tenderloin - 7.1 oz
  • Spanish onions - 1 head
  • Orange Bell Peppers - 1 piece
  • Grated Ginger Root - 1 piece
  • Garlic - 2 cloves
  • Mild Chili Spice - 1 piece
  • Ground coriander - 1 bunch
  • Corn Starch - 1 tablespoon
  • Soy Sauce - 2 spoons
  • Chinese Five Spice - 1 tablespoon
  • Canned Pineapple Chunks - 7.8 oz
  • Toasted Sesame - to taste
  • Balsamic Vinegar - 2 spoons
  • Salt - a pinch
  • Ground Black Pepper - a pinch
  • Orange Bell Peppers - 1 piece

Step by Step guide

Step 1

Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and add the rice. Cook the rice according to the instructions on the package. Once the rice is ready, cover it with foil to keep it warm. Cut the pork tenderloin in half lengthwise, then dice it into 2 cm cubes. Dice the onion and bell pepper into 2 cm cubes as well. Peel and thinly slice the garlic and ginger. Slice the chili into rings. Finely chop the cilantro stems.

Step 2

Heat a wok (or large skillet) until very hot, pour in a little olive oil, add the pork, sprinkle in the five-spice mixture, and stir. Fry for a few minutes until the meat is browned, then use a slotted spoon to transfer the meat to a bowl. Quickly wipe the wok with a crumpled paper towel and return it to the heat. Once it is hot again, add more olive oil and toss in all the chopped ingredients (except for the meat). Stir-fry continuously for 3 minutes. Sprinkle in the cornstarch and add 2 tablespoons of soy sauce. After 30–40 seconds, add the pineapple chunks along with their juice, return the pork, and stir in 2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar. Season with black pepper. Break a piece of pork to check that it is cooked through, and then remove the wok from the heat.

Step 3

Serve the rice on plates, top with the pork and vegetables along with the sauce, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and garnish with a leaf of romaine lettuce.
