Ingredients
- Butter - 4 tablespoons
- Salt - to taste
- Coarse Cornmeal - 1 cup
- Vegetable Oil - 2 tablespoons
- Onion - 1 head
- Orange Bell Peppers - 1 piece
- Garlic - 1 clove
- Lean Beef - 21.2 oz
- Mild Chili Spice - 1 tablespoon
- Ground Cumin - 1 teaspoon
- Baking Tomatoes - 1 can
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 356°F. Grease a baking dish with 1 tablespoon of butter and set aside. Pour 1 liter of water into a pot and add 2 teaspoons of salt. Bring to a boil and slowly add the cornmeal, whisking vigorously. Reduce the heat and cook until thickened, stirring.
Step 2
Add the remaining butter and stir until the mixture becomes smooth. Pour half of the mixture into the baking dish, spreading it across the bottom and sides. Cover the remaining half and keep it warm.
Step 3
Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, pepper, and minced garlic, and cook until the vegetables are soft. Increase the heat, add the ground beef, ground chili, and cumin. Sauté the beef for about 5 minutes. Then add the crushed canned tomatoes and cook until the liquid evaporates, about 6-8 minutes.
Step 4
Spoon the filling into the baking dish, pour the remaining batter on top, and spread it evenly across the dish. Bake until golden brown for 30-35 minutes. Enjoy your meal!
