Description
Vegan dumplings with butternut squash
Ingredients
- Wheat Flour - 8.8 oz
- Water - 5 fl oz
- Butternut Squash - 17.6 oz
- Butter - to taste
- Salt - a pinch
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Pour the flour into a small pot or mixing bowl, and make a well in the flour for the water.
Step 2
Pour in room temperature salted water and mix the flour with the water to form a dough.
Step 3
Shape the dough into a ball and let it rest for 20 minutes in the bowl, covering the container with plastic wrap (to prevent air from getting in).
Step 4
In the meantime, cut the butternut squash into small cubes, place them in another container, and sprinkle with a little salt. Peel the squash and remove the seeds beforehand.
Step 5
Roll out the dough into a thin circle, and cut out circles of the desired size (you can use a large glass or cup). Shape the dumplings, placing a bit of the chopped squash and a small piece of butter inside each one (if you are not strictly vegan). I use a piece of butter the size of one squash cube.
Step 6
Steam the dumplings for about 40 minutes. I don't have a steamer, so I take a large pot, pour water into the bottom. I place a greased (with butter or vegetable oil) colander in the pot. I put the dumplings in the colander and cover with a lid. In a steamer, the dumplings may cook faster.
