Baked Brie with Caramelized Onions
Ingredients
- Butter - 2 tablespoons
- Onion - 4 heads
- Garlic - 4 cloves
- Chopped Sage Leaves - 1 tablespoon
- Dry White Wine - 4 fl oz
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Brie cheese - 2 lbs
- French Baguette - 1 piece
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onion and sauté until soft, about 6 minutes.
Step 2
Add the thyme, reduce the heat, and cook until the onion is browned, stirring, about 25 minutes.
Step 3
Add the minced garlic and cook for another 2 minutes.
Step 4
Pour in 60 ml of wine and cook for another 2 minutes until the liquid evaporates.
Step 5
Sprinkle with sugar and, stirring, cook for another 10 minutes until the onion caramelizes.
Step 6
Pour in the remaining wine and cook for another 2 minutes until the liquid evaporates. Season with salt and pepper and let cool.
Step 7
Preheat the oven to 356°F.
Step 8
The cheese should be one large round in its wooden packaging. Unwrap the cheese and cut off the top rind, leaving the sides intact. Return the cheese to the box. Place it on a baking sheet.
Step 9
Top the cheese with the caramelized onions and place in the oven for about 30 minutes until the cheese melts. Transfer to a plate and arrange pieces of baguette around it.
