Description
Mackerel or thick mackerel can be used instead of tuna.
Ingredients
- Bonito tuna fillet - 1 piece
- Daikon - to taste
- Ponzu sauce - to taste
- Wasabi - to taste
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Cut the fish into fillets.
Step 2
Sear the fillet over burning straw, or if unavailable, over a gas burner or a handheld torch. As a last resort, use a dry non-stick frying pan. Be sure to sear until the color of the meat changes, do not fry!
Step 3
Immediately place the seared fillet into ice water to cool down.
Step 4
Pat the tataki dry with paper towels, slice into pieces 1–1.5 cm thick. Serve with daikon radish, wasabi, soy sauce (preferably ponzu sauce), and other favorite spices.
