Brussels Sprouts in Cheese Sauce
Ingredients
- Brussels Sprouts - 17.6 oz
- Olive Oil - 1 tablespoon
- Shallot - 1 head
- Wheat Flour - 1 tablespoon
- Skim Milk - 5 fl oz
- Sherry - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - to taste
- Asiago cheese - 2.1 oz
- Ground Black Pepper - to taste
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Clean the Brussels sprouts by removing old leaves and cut each sprout in half. Steam for about 6–8 minutes until tender.
Step 2
Meanwhile, heat the olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped shallot and sauté for 1–1.5 minutes, sprinkle with flour, mix well, and then slowly stir in the milk and sherry. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly and breaking up lumps, reduce the heat and cook until thickened for about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the grated cheese, season with salt and pepper.
Step 3
Place the Brussels sprouts on a serving dish and drizzle with the sauce.
