- Ground Black Pepper - ¼ teaspoon
- Chopped Sage Leaves - 2 tablespoons

Melt the butter in an ovenproof deep skillet and add the peeled whole shallots and sugar, stirring well. Cook, stirring, for 10 minutes until the shallots begin to brown. Add the vinegar, salt, and pepper, and mix well.

Then place the skillet in the oven and roast the shallots for about 15-30 minutes, until tender, depending on their size. Season with salt and pepper to taste and sprinkle with parsley. Serve hot.
