Fiddlehead Ferns in Batter
Ingredients
- Ostrich fern - 1 bunch
- Chicken Egg - 2 pieces
- Wheat Flour - 5.3 oz
- Water - 2 fl oz
- Salt - to taste
- Ground Black Pepper - to taste
- Vegetable Oil - 6 tablespoons
Step by Step guide
Step 1
The fiddlehead fern is toxic when raw, so do not consume it in its raw form. First, boil the fiddlehead ferns for 7 minutes over high heat. Be careful not to overcook them, or they will become very soft.
Step 2
In a separate bowl, mix the flour, eggs, water, salt, and pepper. Stir well.
Step 3
Heat the oil in a skillet.
Step 4
Dip the fiddlehead (fern frond) in the batter and transfer it to the skillet for frying. Fry on both sides.
