Description

Ham, Cheese, and Egg Sandwich

Ingredients

  • Mixed salad greens - 1.4 oz
  • Salted Butter - 6 tablespoons
  • Wheat Flour - 4 tablespoons
  • Milk - 8 fl oz
  • Dijon Mustard - 1 tablespoon
  • Nutmeg - 1 teaspoon
  • White bread - 8 pieces
  • Smoked Ham on the Bone - 8.8 oz
  • Gruyère cheese - 15.9 oz
  • Crème fraîche - 4 tablespoons
  • Aleppo pepper - to taste
  • Salt - to taste
  • Ground Black Pepper - to taste

Step by Step guide

Step 1

In a saucepan, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk to prevent lumps. Cook the flour until golden brown. Add the milk, whisking continuously, and bring to a boil. Then reduce the heat and cook until thickened. Add 1.5 tablespoons of mustard and nutmeg. Season with salt and pepper. The béchamel sauce is ready.

Step 2

Preheat the oven. Place 4 pieces of bread on a baking sheet and spread 1 tablespoon of mustard on each. Top with pieces of ham, 2 tablespoons of béchamel sauce, and 50 g of cheese each. Place in the oven and bake until the cheese melts.

Step 3

Top with the remaining pieces of bread, spread with sauce, and sprinkle with the remaining cheese. Return to the oven and bake for another 3-4 minutes until the cheese is golden brown.

Step 4

In a skillet, melt the remaining butter over medium heat, crack the eggs, and season with salt and pepper. Cook for about 3 minutes until the whites are set and the yolks remain runny.

Step 5

Top each sandwich with an egg, spread with crème fraîche, and sprinkle with pepper. Serve with salad. Enjoy your meal!
