Description
Monte Cristo Sandwich
Ingredients
- Sourdough Bread - 4 slices
- Mustard Greens - 2 teaspoons
- Mayonnaise - 2 teaspoons
- Ham - 4 slices
- Gruyère cheese - 2 slices
- Egg white - 1 piece
- Milk - 1 fl oz
- Salt - a pinch
- Butter - 1.1 oz
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Spread mayonnaise or mustard on 4 slices of bread.
Step 2
Place one thin slice of ham on two slices of bread.
Step 3
Top the ham with a slice of cheese. Cover the sandwiches with the remaining slices of bread.
Step 4
Carefully trim the edges of the sandwiches with a serrated knife (this step is optional, but it makes them look neater and helps the bread absorb the egg mixture better).
Step 5
Lightly beat the egg with the milk and salt.
Step 6
Dip the sandwiches in the egg mixture and hold them in it for about 30 seconds.
Step 7
Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat.
Step 8
Fry the sandwiches for about two minutes on each side. Turn the sandwiches carefully with two spatulas. After flipping, gently press down on the sandwiches with a spatula to help the halves stick together.
Step 9
Remove the sandwiches to a cutting board and let them sit for a minute.
Step 10
Carefully cut them into triangular halves with a serrated knife.
