Description
Onion Rings in Sweet and Sour Sauce
Ingredients
- Vegetable Oil - 15 fl oz
- Wheat Flour - 5 oz
- Spanish onions - 1 head
- Sparkling water - 5 fl oz
- Ketchup - 2 tablespoons
- Ricotta cheese - 5 oz
- Chives - 2 tablespoons
- TABASCO® - ½ teaspoon
- Worcestershire Sauce - ½ teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Ground Black Pepper - to taste
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Heat the deep fryer or a deep skillet filled one-third with sunflower oil to a temperature of 375°F. If you don't have a thermometer, you can check the temperature by dropping a piece of bread into the oil. At the right temperature, the bread will brown in about 40 seconds.
Step 2
Peel the onion and slice it into rings about 1 cm thick. In a suitable container, sift the flour and make a well in the center. Pour in the sparkling water and quickly mix to form a batter. Add seasonings to taste.
Step 3
Dip the onion rings into the batter, then lower them into the hot oil for 2–3 minutes and fry until golden brown. Place on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
Step 4
In a suitable container, combine the ricotta, ketchup, chopped chives, TABASCO, and Worcestershire sauce. Add seasonings and mix well. Transfer the sauce to serving bowls, place on serving plates, and arrange the fried onion rings alongside. Serve hot.
