Potatoes with Onions and Cream

Ingredients

  • Salt - to taste
  • Cream - 8.8 oz
  • Gruyère cheese - 2.8 oz
  • Butter - 0.7 oz
  • Onion - 3 pieces
  • Olive Oil - 3 tablespoons
  • Salad Potatoes - 2 lbs

Step by Step guide

Step 1

Place the potatoes in a large pot, cover with cold water, and add 1 teaspoon of salt. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and cook for 20-30 minutes until soft. Drain, peel, and slice thinly. Slice the onions thinly as well, and grate the cheese.

Step 2

Heat the olive oil in a pan, add the onions, and sauté over low heat, stirring, for 10 minutes until browned. Remove from heat.

Step 3

Preheat the oven to 356°F. Grease a baking dish with butter and layer half of the potatoes. Add half of the onions on top. Season with salt and sprinkle with half of the cheese. Add the remaining potatoes and onions, season with salt, and pour the lightly beaten cream on top. Shake the dish to allow the cream to penetrate the layers. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese.

Step 4

Bake for 20 minutes, then place under the broiler for a few more minutes until the top is golden. Serve immediately in the same dish.
