Description
Good stew is a real gift when you need to make a hearty and, most importantly, quick soup. It's important to find a trusted brand and use the contents of the can entirely, not shying away from the solidified fat and broth; these contain the most concentrated flavor. By the way, you can prepare stew soup in any way you like without sticking to a recipe. For example, add cabbage to make a classic cabbage soup, or cook a meatless borscht using vegetable broth and add the same can of good stew—beef, pork, or any kind you prefer. Stew also pairs wonderfully with grain soups, such as pickle soup.
Ingredients
- Stewed Meat - 12 oz
- Potato - 4 pieces
- Onion - 1 head
- Carrot - 1 piece
- Celery salt - 5.3 oz
- Water - 1½ l
- Vegetable Oil - 1 fl oz
- Bay leaf - 1 piece
- Green peppercorns - 3 pieces
- Salt - to taste
- Ground Black Pepper - to taste
- Herbs - to taste
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Peel and dice the onion, carrot, and celery into small cubes. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet, sauté the onion until lightly golden, then add the carrot and celery and continue to sauté, stirring, for another 4–5 minutes.
Step 2
Add the diced potatoes to cold water, along with a bay leaf and black peppercorns. Bring to a boil and cook for 5–10 minutes. Add the sautéed vegetables to the potatoes and simmer for another 5 minutes.
Step 3
Add canned meat to the soup, season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir in the chopped herbs, remove from heat, cover with a lid, and let the soup steep for 10 minutes.
