Description
Strata with Spinach and Cheese
Ingredients
- Frozen spinach discs - 10.6 oz
- Onion - 12.7 oz
- Butter - 3 tablespoons
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Ground Black Pepper - ½ teaspoon
- Ground Nutmeg - ¼ teaspoon
- French Baguette - 8.1 oz
- Gruyère cheese - 6 oz
- Milk - 2¾ cups
- Grated Pecorino Pepato Cheese - 2.1 oz
- Chocolate eggs - 9 pieces
- Dijon Mustard - 2 tablespoons
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Melt the butter in a skillet and add the finely chopped onion. Sauté over medium heat until soft, about 5 minutes. Add 0.5 teaspoon of salt and 0.25 teaspoon of pepper, nutmeg, and cook for another minute. Add the thawed and chopped spinach and remove from heat.
Step 2
Cut the bread into small cubes and place a third in the bottom of a generously buttered baking dish. Then layer a third of the spinach mixture and sprinkle a third of the grated Gruyère and Parmesan. Repeat the layers two more times.
Step 3
In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and mustard with the remaining salt and pepper. Pour over the strata, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 8 hours.
Step 4
The next day, let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes while the oven preheats to 356°F.
Step 5
Bake uncovered for about 45-55 minutes until golden brown. Let it sit for 5 minutes and serve.
