Description

The popularity of thick waffles made from fluffy batter in America surged after the World’s Fair in New York in 1964, where they were brought by Belgian pastry chefs. They became so much a part of American culture that a national holiday was dedicated to them: National Waffle Day is celebrated in the USA on August 24. In appearance and texture, American waffles are almost indistinguishable from Belgian ones — they are similarly rich, fluffy cakes with large square pockets. However, where the Belgians use butter, Americans use margarine and always add baking powder. Essentially, these are pancakes cooked in a waffle iron. Various additions are often incorporated into American waffles: sweet ones may include banana and caramel, while savory ones may feature potato and crispy bacon. Unsweetened waffles often serve as bread for sandwiches or as a side dish for meat dishes.

  • All-purpose flour - 7.1 oz
  • Margarine - 3.5 oz
  • Sugar - 3.5 oz
  • Sour Cream - 3.5 oz
  • Eggs - 2 pieces

  • Salt - to taste
  • Baking Powder - 0.1 oz
  • Almond Extract - 0 fl oz

Step by Step guide

Step 1

Grease the waffle iron with vegetable oil. Preheat the waffle iron.
