Description

A dessert that emerged by order of the Ministry of Food during World War II, when Britain faced shortages of sugar, butter, and other essentials, yet the desire for something sweet persisted for both physiological and patriotic reasons. Crumble is a way to make a fruit pie with minimal sugar, butter, and flour. The war ended, but the recipe remained.

Ingredients

  • Apple - 3 pieces
  • Wheat Flour - 5 oz
  • Sugar - 5 oz
  • Butter - 5 oz
  • Raisins - 0 oz
  • Calvados - ½ glasses
  • Cinnamon - to taste
  • Vanilla salt - to taste

Peel the apples.

Cut into slices that are neither too large nor too small.

Meanwhile, soak the raisins in boiling water, mixing them with Calvados.

Melt a little butter in a skillet and sauté the apple slices until soft.

Once they have softened, pour Calvados over them, sprinkle with cinnamon, and let them cook on the heat until the alcohol has evaporated.

In a separate bowl, mix the flour with the sugar and 175 grams of butter by hand until crumbly.

Scrape the seeds from the vanilla pods into the batter and add the cinnamon.

Arrange the apple slices at the bottom of a baking dish, drizzle with the liquid left in the pan after frying, and sprinkle raisins over the apples.
