Description
Any apples can be used, but this recipe is especially suitable for situations when you have too many apples from your garden and you no longer know what to do with all these brown, anise, pear-shaped, and Jonathan apples lying under the trees in a neat carpet, with varying degrees of 'barrels' showing.
Ingredients
- Sugar - 4 tablespoons
- Apple - 2 lbs
- Ground Oats - 1 cup
- Wheat Flour - 2 tablespoons
- Butter - 1.8 oz
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Wash about 1 kg of apples, dry them, and cut them into pieces. Not too small, but not too large. I call this arbitrary cutting, which saves them from rot.
Step 2
Place the chopped apples in a container like a saucepan or a frying pan with high sides. Sprinkle with sugar, mix to distribute the sugar evenly. Let it sit for a couple of minutes, then place on medium heat. The apples are not fried or boiled, but steamed. When some of the apples have softened and the mixture starts to become homogeneous, increase the heat while continuously stirring the apples with a wooden spatula. This process can be called caramelization, but with the difference that it is done with minimal sugar and no oil. This stage will take 20-25 minutes.
Step 3
Add the oats to the apple mixture: do this gradually, distributing them evenly. Add the diced butter. Mix well. Cover with a lid. Let it sit for 2-3 hours (you can leave it until morning; apple meatballs are great for breakfast). During this time, the oats will swell, absorb the remaining moisture from the apples, and the mixture will become homogeneous.
Step 4
Form balls with a diameter of 2 centimeters, evenly coat them in flour or finely ground nuts, and place them on a baking sheet.
Step 5
Bake at 302°F for 30-40 minutes.
Step 6
The apple balls are ready!
