Description
Armenian lavash is a traditional flatbread that is soft, thin, and often used to wrap various fillings. It is a staple in Armenian cuisine and is loved for its versatility and flavor. Commonly enjoyed with grilled meats, vegetables, or as a base for sandwiches, this lavash can be found in many American restaurants specializing in Mediterranean or Middle Eastern cuisine.
Ingredients
- Water - 1 glass
- Wheat Flour - 17.6 oz
- Salt - to taste
- Butter - 1.8 oz
- Dry yeast - 0.3 oz
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Knead the dough. To do this, mix water, salt, softened butter (optional, but it adds more flavor), yeast, and flour. Allow it to rise well.
Step 2
Divide the dough into small balls about 5–6 cm in diameter (if you have time, let the already shaped balls rise again), then roll each ball into a very thin pancake, about 1–2 mm thick, and fry on a preheated skillet over medium-high heat for 10–15 seconds on each side.
Step 3
As soon as the lavash turns pale and starts bubbling, flip it over. Do not let the lavash dry out, and avoid frying it until golden brown — it all happens very quickly.
Step 4
Place the finished lavash between two damp cloths.
