Description
Babka is a traditional Polish Easter cake.
Ingredients
- Wheat Flour - 12.3 oz
- Salt - a pinch
- Sugar - 0.9 oz
- Butter - 5.3 oz
- Dry yeast - 1 teaspoon
- Milk - 5 fl oz
- Chocolate eggs - 4 pieces
- Raisins - 4.1 oz
- Orange zest - to taste
- Honey - 4 tablespoons
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Sift the flour, salt, and sugar into a large bowl. Add the yeast, then make a well in the center.
Step 2
Add the butter, milk, egg yolks, dried fruits, and zest. Knead the dough. Transfer to a floured surface and knead for 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
Step 3
Place the dough in a 1.25 kg capacity mold. Cover with oiled plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for 60 minutes.
Step 4
Preheat the oven to 374°F. Bake for 45-50 minutes. The main sign that the dish is ready: a skewer inserted into the center should come out clean.
Step 5
Let the cake cool in the mold for 5 minutes. Turn it out onto a rack and brush with warmed honey. Once cooled, slice and serve with butter.
