Baklava with Honey, Walnuts, and Cardamom
Ingredients
- Water - ½ cup
- Wheat Flour - 16.2 oz
- Whole egg - 1 piece
- Walnuts - 5.6 oz
- Dry yeast - 0.5 oz
- Sugar - 5.6 oz
- Cardamom - to taste
- Honey - 2.8 oz
- Butter - 5.3 oz
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Dissolve the yeast in warm water and, stirring continuously, gradually add the flour. Knead the dough and let it rest in a warm place for 40 minutes.
Step 2
Chop the walnuts and mix them with sugar. Add crushed cardamom.
Step 3
Preheat the oven to 392°F.
Step 4
Roll out the dough into very thin layers. Layer them on a greased baking tray, brushing with melted butter and layering with the nut mixture. The top and bottom two layers should only be brushed with butter.
Step 5
Cut the surface of the cake and brush it with lightly beaten egg yolk. Bake for 40 minutes.
Step 6
15 minutes before it's done, brush the surface of the cake with honey.
