Ingredients
- Chopped almonds - 10.6 oz
- Phyllo Dough - 40 sheets
- Olive Oil - 8 fl oz
- Sugar - 17.6 oz
- Water - 12 fl oz
- Lemon - 1 piece
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 320°F. Evenly spread the almonds on a baking sheet and place in the oven for 12 minutes, until the nuts begin to darken. Let cool and chop.
Step 2
Cut the phyllo dough into 2 parts. Place half of the dough in a deep baking dish, brushing each sheet with olive oil. Top with the nuts and spread them evenly over the surface of the dough, then cover with the remaining sheets, brushing each with olive oil.
Step 3
Place the dish with the dough in the refrigerator; after cooling, the mass should be easy to cut with a knife.
Step 4
Cut the baklava into square portions, drizzle with water, and bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes. While the baklava is baking, prepare the syrup.
Step 5
In a saucepan, combine 350 ml of water, 500 g of sugar, as well as the zest and juice of 1 lemon. Bring to a boil, let the syrup cool, and pour it over the baklava as soon as you take it out of the oven.
Step 6
Allow the syrup to soak in and serve.
